Pacific Science Center Volunteers: Mercer Slough Project Volunteer ...

Pacific Science Center is committed to driving science education forward in Washington State, and inspiring today?s youth to further their education and go into careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. We offer a wide variety of programs, including standards-based formal and informal science education programs and an award-winning environmental education center.

Located on a biologically diverse 320-acre wetland nature park in the heart of urban Bellevue, WA, the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center is a collaboration between the City of Bellevue and Pacific Science Center. Pacific Science Center offers science-based activities for youth and families at the Mercer Slough, including Wetland Field Studies, Summer Day Camps, Afterschool Nature Club, B?Earthday Parties, Lake Washington Watershed Internship Program activities for high school students, and the newly-launched Polliwog Preschool program. A dedicated project volunteer is needed to assist with the day-to-day logistics of the busy office.

Enthusiastic, flexible, and caring people with an office background and passion for the environment are a good match for this position. We ask that volunteers commit to volunteer once a week for 6 months.

Reports To: Mercer Slough Site Supervisor
Position Start Date: April 2012
Time Commitment: 10 am ? 1 pm every Friday

Job Duties


? Assist Mercer Slough staff with general office tasks such as filing, making photocopies, updating lists and documents, and completing supplies inventories
? Maintain an orderly office environment and assist with organizational and cleaning activities around the office
? Assist with supplies maintenance and mending projects as needed, including cleaning Pacific Science Center vans
? Other projects as assigned

Required
? 18+ years old
? Pass a criminal background check
? Provide three references (one or more being a professional reference)
? Commit to volunteering once a week for at least 6 months

Desired
? Passion for the environment and environmental education
? Previous office and computer (Microsoft Office Suite) experience

Abilities and Personal Characteristics
? Enthusiasm for science, the environment, and education
? Courteous professional manner
? Ability to exercise sound judgment and flexibility should difficult situations arise
? Excellent oral communication skills
? Ability to present oneself in a professional manner with regards to personal appearance and hygiene
? Smiling team player, with a pleasant disposition and service orientation
